Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I got six sterbei cories last Saturday. On Wednesday I noticed that two of them had pale patches just below their dorsal fins.

They are in the tank with a nerite snail, an apple snail, a few plants and some driftwood that I also got on Saturday.

Someone on another forum said that it looked like columnaris, but according to Wiki they should be pretty much dead already if it's that.

As of last night they were swimming, eating, and active.

Temp 26C
Ph 6.3 (is usually around 7, was told before that addind driftwood can bring it down slightly)
Amm 0
nI <0.1
nA 0

An abrasion was my first thought too. I'll try get a closer picture this evening. I'll be swapping the gravel for sand in the next week.

Here's a short video of one of them

Afraid I don't agree with the abrasion theory, I would if you could get a decent photo of the Barbles on the Cory, if they are worn away then yes but I doubt you'll find they are worn, it looks either Bacteria or Fungus related. However,,,, this could also be as a result of a burn from hiding or resting near your Heater.

There is a heater, but it has a guard on it.

If it is bateria or fungus what can be done? I've seen some people recommend salt, but afaik that's not recommended for cories.

Water changes and as Chris says eSHa 2000. Do a Water change before medicating and when you get the problem under control, regular Water changes. While medicating, increase the oxygen levels in the Tank by Air stone or by lifting the return from your Filter above the Water line.

Where can I get eSHa 2000? Is it something that would be available in petshops?

Just to follow up on this: I was away for the weekend, so couldn't get any medications. However all fish are still alive, still active, and the marks are fading so I think that it was probably just an abrasion.

It's good news as regards the columnaris hypothesis anyway; if it was that the entire tank should be wiped out by now, so phew.
