Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Clown Loach and White Spot

I bought a couple of new fish before going on holiday. Silly mistake.
Anyway when I got back after a week away there was a strong outbreak of white spot in the tank.
I have been treating the tank with eSHa EXIT Anti Whitespot treatment. This normally works ok after the 3 day treatment method but I have four 2" clown loaches in the tank and they appear to be worst affected.
The white spot appears to be clearing from the other fish but the clown loaches are still covered with it.
I've heard that white spot is difficult to cure with clown loach.
Any suggestions on what to do :(

any way you can quaranteen them in a small tank? would make it easier to eliminate the problem in your main tank and cheaper to treat the clown loach while isolating the problem....

Unfortunately I only have the one five foot tank.
I do need to get a quaranteen tank but do not have the funds at the moment.

i'm sure even a storage box would do, i could imagine it costing ye an arm and leg to dose a 5 foot tank?

Dosage cost is not high.
The tank is only 350 litres.
One bottle does 1000 litres at 7 Euro a bottle.

My problem is getting rid of the white spot where clown loaches are concerned.
I may have to extend the number of days I dose the tank.It normally works fully after 3 days.
This is my fifth day dosing and no sign of the clown loaches clearing up.

bump the temp up to 30-33 degrees for a few days when treating whitespot
it worked for me without meds

Thanks Mossy!
That sounds like a good idea. I will give it a go.

+1 Best to do when treating white spot just increase slowly and leave for 10 or so days and then decrease again slowly

Also just keep note what else is in the tank to make sure this will not effect them
