Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

On Thursday 7th March Aldi have 210l water butt sets for €39.99
The same set in Argos is €62.99!
And there was me going to pay €35.99 for a 100l set at the weekend! Glad I waited now

OK then, which of yous went out to Aldi and bought one of the sets today?
I had great intentions to get one myself but wasn't 'at my best' today and wasn't able to get out, but hopefully they might just have one left tomorrow at Portumna Aldi...

That's real pain, still, it goes to show that the early fishkeeper catches the water-butt (or words to that effect).

I figured they would be popular so got there early. All gone in my local aldi in about 15mins.

So for those that did get one, how are you thinking of getting a filter on the filler thingy?

Didn't even get to Aldi myself  Hopefully there will be some left here! Not too many fishkeepers around here but lots of gardeners :pinch:

went to 3 different aldi stores around cork, all sold out, i think there may have only been 4 or 6 in each store as i could see the empty pallets and that is all i recon would would fit on them

I think they were 8 per pallet, there was a decent sized queue at my local aldi wait to get these. The wate metres have people scared I'd say

Just got back - Aldi in Portumna still have three there (obviously not too many gardeners/fishkeepers at the North End of Lough Derg).
I couldn't really afford it, but I had to buy one! (There were four there).

So, I realise it's a bit of a run out - but there are some left there.

For those that missed out, head along to Woodies, a 210ltr set on sale for €39.99 dosn't seem to include the stand as far as I can see, but it might.

So, it would seem as though the stand is part of the deal - I should have looked before buying my Aldi one, Woodies give 10% discount to Axa insurance policy-holders, meaning I'd have saved an extra few shillings!
