Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Need help, parasites or neon tetra disease or what was created by amp2000 (amp2000)
OK, I'm a bit worried here, I posted this on the 28th of november & nobody replied.

Last night I noticed 1 of my danios had a red yoke trailing from it's anus, probably 1/4 the length of the fish, it fell off a few mins after I noticed it, I thought it was faeces but read it might be internal parasites. Today he is mostly hovering up in the corner swimming slowly :(
After a bit of research I went to an LFS & got some sterazin & dosed the tank a few hours ago.

Any advice for dealing with this other than what I'm already doing? I've 4 danios & 6 peppered corys & really don't want to lose any but I'm not too hopeful about the danio.

My ammonia & nitrites are 0 & nitrates about 20.

Anyway, I bought some Sterazin & dosed the tank with that for 10 days, I lost the sick danio 5 days into the sterazin treatment, he just got worse & worse. The other danios seemed fine & I moved them to a 50litre tank a day after the 10 day sterazim treatment.
All seemed good so I bought 12 neon tetras for my 120litre about 10 days ago, all was good till friday when I noticed a problem with a neon, he was slow & eventually start hovering at the surface, he was also bloated & didn't look normal, patches/inflamed gills, I was due to do the weekly water change but done a test before to see was anything wrong, my ammonia & nitrites were 0 but the nitrates were higher than I'd ever seen before, about 40.
After the water change there wasn't much improvement so I moved him to the 50 litre with the 3 danios.
I had to get rid of the sick neon after a few hours with the danios unfortunately, now it looks like a danio has the same thing...
The danio has a white spot on the top of his head & unhealthy scales on one side, he doesn't look good at all, also pooing stringy shit & flicking his back fin like he's trying to shake something off.

I don't know what I should do here, tonight I seen my biggest fish in my 120litre, a little cory catfish doing a couple of downward flicks into the gravel, not persistent but I seen this before with a danio & it didn't end well...

Any advice at all appreciated...

Camellanus,50% water change and the best treatment is kusuri wormer and feed heavily with brine shrimp to flush them out
Best whit spot treatment is Esha exit but can't be used together, remove all carbon when dosing

Neons are a bit of a nightmare also I would go for the cardinals their much easier to keep

Thanks for your replies, I won't get to an lfs till friday but I might be able to convince the missus to goto maxizoo tomorrow, would they stock it maybe? Or am I wasting my time trying to convince her?

UPDATE: The cory catfish acting a bit mad last night seems fine now, I can't even tell which one it was now, they all look normal.
In my 50litre the sick danio had half his insides coming out so I put him out of his misery.

Anyway, remaining fish in both tanks seem normal for now. I won't get to an lfs for a few days so I'll just hope for the best & if any of them looks sick, I'll move them in with the 2 danios in the 50litre...

I've another question also if anyone can help. The 50litre with the 2 remaining danios is cycling about 3 weeks, what do I do if the 2 danios die? Do I have to sterilize everything & start from scratch with new media or what?
