Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Flubenol?

Flubenol? was created by KenS (Ken Simpson)
Does anyone have a source for Flubenol? I have a Caeruleus that isn't eating. At least he's trying to eat, but keeps spitting up the food. This has been ongoing for a few weeks and he's looking very skinny.

Worms has been suggested so I want to try treating him with Flubenol (or something similar). It may be worth treating my whole African tank.

There was a guy selling it on eBay, but not any more. I can't find any other source. There is a flubenol.co.uk web site, but it's just a blank page.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Ken.

Just did some reading. Seemingly new laws governing the sale of animal medications over the counter were introduced in the UK in September. It's possible that Flubenol has been taken off the market as an OTC medication for the moment.

One forums says that the manufacturers are applying for a license to sell it OTC, but there is no guarantee that they will get it. Looks like there's a risk that it could be Vet prescription only going forward.

Ken.

Hi Ken,I did an extensive search and could only come up with Irish Vets who sell wormer plus, which is similar to Flubenol but in a different concentration.
This is all I could find:

www.agrihealth.ie/ProductDetail.ts;jsess...07883?itemCode=39300

which isnt really any use?

Hi Ken,
got any any pharmacy that sells vetinary medications and ask for Flubenol for worming pigs (here's what I use www.farmrite.co.uk/product.ds2?p=5012674900024). One level tablespoon for 200 l. However, Flubenol will not get rid of all worms. Any LFS in your area that stocks JBL products. Gyrodol (not Gyrodactol)will get rid of all worms.

Are you sure that it's not a internal bacterial infection? If you have a microscope have a look at the faeces. If it's a worm infection you will see them.
If you can't see any worms, your fish will most likely have a internal bacterial infection. Sera Bactopur or JBL Fluranol are best for that. Just make sure you turn off the lights when treating with either of these two medications. They have same active ingredient. Best done in a seperate tank since your filter bacteria will be killed off as well

Thanks Chris. I saw Wormerplus on another site and it looks very similar to Flubenol if not the same thing.
