Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Angels slow to eat

I introduced two angels to my tank about 2 weeks ago. Both settled in nicely however Ive noticed that one of the angels is very slow to eat. He hasnt taken much food in recently despite trying various food types that the other angel (and larger) has readily accepted. The angels are young enought but Im slighty worried as I know they need alot of food when they are small. They arent overly active either. I need to do a water change on the tank also but my mains supply water isnt the best for the past 2 nights so Im waiting for tomorrow night. I did a big clean out tonight of the plants in the tank so hoping that may encourage them to come out a little bit more (but still lots of placed for them to hide etc).
They both hang out everywhere together. Any tips?

this may sound unusual but crush a clove of garlic into your food, shake it about in your food container then feed your fish, garlic is a natural appetite stimulator and i've found it invaluable with fish who are picky eaters, plus its good for them

Ive bought some New Life Spectrum food but its the sinking type and my angels dont seem to want to go to the bottom of the tank. One of the angels just constantly sulks in the corner by the top of the tank.
Anyone know what foods I should be giving the poor guy and why the angel is just sulking in the corner?

Ok,the little guy isnt eating anything now. He is very skinny at present so Im concerned that he might not make it as he refuses to eat for me and is very sluggish around the tank, stays in the corner for most of the day.
PLEASE HELP?!

this sometimes happens with young angels for no obvious reason. try to tempt him with wormy food and staple of flake. angels dont usually like pellet foods and have to be weaned on to them.

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

have you tried crushing a clove of garlic into your food it acts as an appetite stimulant

I crushed a clove of garlic and left it in with the flake food. Hopefully it will mix with the flakes and get the fish in the mood to eat then.

Hi Gavin
Have you tried feeding some type of live food,I recently started feeding some microworms to rummynoses which were taking a while to settle in,they loved them and are now feeding on flake and everything else including catfish pellets, they follow them down to the bottom and pull them to bits:)
