ancistrus heater burn?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Well my poor fish in the South American tank just dont seem to be having any luck at present,I had a look at one my ancistrus last night to find that it has a red dot on it head and similar burn like type marking on his upper head,Im wondering is it heater burn that he has gotten? I think it probably is,he is still moving around fine, also its not a case that he spends all his time near the heater or anything but I cant think that it would be anything else,I dount the L144 is doing any damage to him,it would be the opposite if anything as the ancistrus seems to be the boss between the two of them. Anyone know what to do with him, maybe some melafix to just aid the healing?
On a negative note,Ive also noticed one of my neons display some potential signs of neon tetra disease. Will need to have a look at him tonight and if the skin looks any more saddled look then I think I will have to remove and humanely destroy him,I dont necessarily want to put him into my quarantine tank as its nearly ready for my other fish so I can treat other fish in the tank without hurting corys etc..(See my other thread).
Gesh, its amazing how I picked up on the neon being sick,I noticed that it was removed from the shoal of other fish for alot of the time, then I saw its tail showing white (not white spot).
This is also the tank my angel is having difficulty with. I swear Im having no luck with this tank at present. Water is clean, even my rams are spawning in it. Ill do another partial water change tonight.

Hi Gavin, melafix should do for the ancistrus to heal those burns, may take a while but using it will stop secondary infections..also get a couple of hair rollers to slide over the heater this will prevent the fish making contact with the heater and getting burned,
as for neon tetra disease heres a good link on it
freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/neondisease.htm
unfortunately sounds like the angel may have it too
hope this helps

Seamus
Great article there, Im afraid its beginning to sound very much the case with mine. I will separate the neon today. The angel fish I will treat with melafix again and conduct regular water changes.
If it doesnt improve I'll have to consider my options then.
