Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Unfortunately these things happen.
Yes protozin should work for the white spot.

for the future, i suggest you get a samll quarentine tank, keep the fish in it for a couple of weeks and treat them with a general tonic before introducing into your tank, it'll prevent this ever happening

currently 25 tanks, and breeding is the aim of everything i keep

Spots on pleco only visible for a day or so, and syno starting to breakout....put in first dose last night so hopefully have caught it early enough

Just wondering can plants carry white spot?

Just noticed tonight that all my fish had it my bala is covered head to tail and other fish have it on there fins. Wasnt in my tank yesterday morning came home and its running wild:angry:

I havnt got any new fish, just got a delivery of plants so thats the only way i can think its got in my tank.

Have you check your water? Or is there any bullying? Whitespot can be dormant for a very long time but new fish dont get a chance to adjust to W/C, existing occupants etc and when they get stressed it can take hold and stress other fish in the tank and so on....

just backed up this issue a miniute ago regarding stress on another tread.
but in your case remember if you see unhealthy fish or water conditions in some of the tanks in your lfs most likly the disease has spread to even the healthiest tanks as they all run into the same filteration.
i would never buy from a shop that had dead fish in their tanks [unless its a quarintine which not many places have]. hope every thing works out the lads really know their shxx, regarding meds

One male platty dead this morning other male lookin like he will die soon.

Thats why i think it came in with the plants its all i can think off.

Hey,

i used interpet white spot 2days ago and white spot had over run my tank all fish had my bala was covered head to tail really bad one platty just about to die on his side not really moving up against my filter but after 2 days huge difference in all fish bala has a few spots left platty is swimmming round looking better but still abit sick all other fish are white spot free im over the moon.

With the interpet white spot its 5mls per 19l of water use once kills all live spot in the tank and in the water then 30% water change a week later use again to kill the white that has come of the fish. Well thats what interpet say...............

It has worked for me twice now.

Hows it going...so to hear your woes...

First course of protozin hasnt had much effect....have now got temperaure up to 30 degrees and started second course tonight after a 30% water change and sand vaccum...maybe should have changed treatment to Interpet...ingredients probably the same as Protozin? Where did you buy yours ?
