Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi, there seems to be a problem in the tank and I cant see what it is. I have the tank running over a year. - 90l with Fluval 2+ filter. Everything was fine until this week. I did a 25% water change last Sat. On Mon one of my silver tip tetras died and yesterday my pleco died. None of these fish were showing any symptoms prior to their deaths.
I tested the water and all the parameters are fine Ammonia - 0, Ph 7, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10ppm. Nothing has been added to the tank in over three months and I am still feeding the same foods.
All the other fish are not showing any signs of illness. Should I be worried?
Thanks.
Leonie

Hi Leonie, ok 1 or 2 quick questions, did you treat the water with a conditioner, if so is it still in date and do you know if the council where working on the lines as sometimes they put additives in which while harmless to us are lethal to fish..it happened me once and i lost a breeding pair of oscars to it, disgusted w the council

hi sheag,
I only bought a bottle of water conditioner last Fri and it is in date. I am funny about the dates on the stuff I buy as I once bought food, fed it to my fish, within hours 4 died. I check the food and it was out of date by 6 months. One mistake I will never make again.
As far as I know the council havent done anything. I leave the containers of water standing in the house overnight - with water conditioner and test the water before I put it into the tank and all seemed fine. I did loose a fish before from not checking the water before adding it to teh tank - another rookie mistake!

the only thing i can think of then is there is some additive in the water that the conditioner isnt getting rid of, as your parameters seem ok, otherwise it could just be bad luck as you say they are not showing any signs of illness.. keep us informed, and maybe a general tonic could be of use

Will keep ya posted. I have a general tonic and Esha 2000 I might but 1 of them in and see what happens. It could have just been coincidence!

hi nonie
sorry to hear this, there is nothing worse than un explained deaths in your tank. i would suggest the esha be your first action as prevention is better than cure.
it might be a of use to try some organic aqua general health treatments i find it quite help full
