Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Problems feeding gobies

I have some Sicyopterus longifilis and am having terrible problems feeding them.I am trying all sorts of vegetable and algae based foods, but they are still wasting away.
I think a contributing factor for this could be the fact that the tank has a lot of bottom feddeing fish that are of a very similar feeding requirement,so competition would be strong.Unfortunately,I don't have a tank they can be transferred to,hopefully have that arranged in a week or two.
Anybody any experience or advice here?

Have one of these a few months now meself. Loads of corys, catfish and pleco in the tank as well. Have never seen the goby feed. He is gettin a bit braver now and has a look at daddy mick now and again. Probably too early to tell if my lad is wasting away, but he looks healthy. At night just throw in loads of algae wafers and cucumber. Also have the lights on for about 12 hours of the day. Will wait and see....Have u seen ure guys eating?

Drop in a tank divider of some sort to block his exit near the filter box and try and poke him out with a net waiting for him. At the end of the day if u want him to live in the new tank u will find a way, "use the force acara"......

I'm not certain, but something sticks in my mind that Daragh Owens had these for a while, he can answer you better himself but I think he was putting small rocks into a tank of water on the windowsill and putting them into the tank with the Gobies when they had become covered with algae - but with your other inhabitants of the tank perhaps this covering mightn't last long enough for the poor Gobies to get their rightful share.
I hope they last long enough for you to get a dedicated tank running for them.

Thanks gents,I do recall him doing that with a species alright, and I intend doing it,I have a conservatory with a big long ledge, and a load of small tanks.Just have to get out and gather some nice round river stones.
1 is out tonight, and looking very poorly.I have just got a tank set up and have bunged an internal into a tank that should kick start it reasonably quickly,I hope.

Bad news I'm afraid. No need for the hospital tank.
Another lesson learned, and nobodys fault but mine. It's actually quite embarrasing typing this post, because I had suspected they weren't feeding well, but I did nothing until they were on deaths doorstep,a sign of very poor and lazy fish-keeping.
