Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I still didn't find my 2 tiger barbs that went missing, presumed dead after a good long search without taking the tank apart. Today i had another death and what looks like another one the way. The fish have no visible signs of problems. Bright red, full fins, no white patches, no bacteria/fungus, no sunken bellies.

I came to the conclusion that it could be the food, i have rarely seen them poo since i started new food about 2 weeks ago, and if i have its been bright red which is the colour of most of the food. Its JBL no mix, 3 different types. 1 "staple", 1 "colour" and 1 "veg"

I may be wrong but seeing as its the tigers who are being effected seeing as they get most of it before the corys do and the water has tested perfect (even with 2 possible rotting fish) im really not sure what else it could be.

Of my 7 tigers left, 1 is displaying the same behaviour as the now dead one, just hiding under the floating plants. Apart from hiding, hes in perfect visual health. Would my theory be right? As of now I'm going to leave it till tomorrow to feed some cucumber and just feed some veg every 2nd day for a week or so.

try feeding the likes of brocoli or even boiled cabbage if they will eat it, i find it runs the guts out of them, i have odessa barbs and they have a nibble at it and my tank does be full of waste. any signs of protruding scales (pine cone like)?

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

check the ash and protin levels in this food! if the percentage is high i would consider using it only about once a week

ASH stoppes food been absorbed
PROTEIN can damage the liver

peas is another good food to get them moving. boil and remove skin and cut to bite size.

As a precaution i would move this barb to an isolation tank and possiably try targeting it with a few grains of epson salts but remember this will effect your warer chemistry so do not over do it.

Has there been any thing else new added to the tank or any other changes recently?

I have cucumber for tomorrow.Theres been a lot of green algae coated on the plants lately, nitrates are less than 30ppm tho. I added amazonian frog bit about 3 weeks ago to this and my multies tank, no ill effects in the multies and my 5 corydoras in this tank are ok.

Scales look ok, absolutely no external signs of anything which is why its making me think its internal. Possibly an internal bacteria problem but then the fish would look washed out would it not? The fish that died was still colourful after death.

The food, i can't find any ingredients on the tubs. The only nutritional info i can find is
"The balanced combination of essential ingredients such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates, as well as vital minerals and vitamins ensures healthy growth and increased resistance to disease....Staple food; coloured with E-additives With antioxidant E306 (natural vitamin E extracts)."
