Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

A lot of folks are put off from purchasing a Reverse Osmosis Module due to the fact that they have to pierce the mains pipe by means of the saddle & screw pin method. This is all well and good until maybe one day you want to sell the house or maybe you are a tenant in rented accommodation and the landlord would go scatty if such a practice was inflicted on the plumbing.
There is however an alternative way of feeding an RO unit with mains water and that is to use a "Y" connector on the washing machine mains spigot coupled to a 6mm reducing tap. (see pic below)

Washing Machine Y Piece ¾ BSP & 1/4 Tap Connector

The "Y" connector fits onto the mains coldwater spigot for your washing machine and the reducing tap onto the connector. Your RO pipe can then be connected to the reducer to feed the RO unit. The other outlet is to feed your washing machine as normal. 1/4 ball valves can then be fitted to the incoming line to open and close (turn on and off) the mains water supply to the unit

1/4 Ball Valve

Most folks will already know of this method but I just thought I'd post for those who may be considering purchasing a RO unit but were put of by puncturing a mains pipe which in time may start to weep.
Regards
C

Excellent idea, really makes it a hell of a lot simpler for someone renting as I am.
You must McGyver a lot for your needs then. Move over Richard Dean Anderson

I was wondering (from your pH woes Mark) why you were not using RO or Rainwater permutations.
Now I know

McGyver

I live in Finglas, if I collected rain water, inevitably I would find a burnt car or shopping trolley in there too.

There are no cars or shopping trolleys left at your end so they come up here:laugh:

OK so they might be Ferraris and Rollers and Golf carts instead of shopping carts and Fiestas:laugh:
