Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not a stab at our admins, just a stab at false pointless political correctness pandered to the azzwipe overactive dogooders and right infringing legal cohorts of those breaking the law themselves.

This is a very emotive issue - personally I strongly object to paying for water which I already pay the ESB electricity charges to pump it from the ground! Last year I had to buy a new well pump which cost me over €800...will that be refundable? - Of course not!
Still, for those of us who have their water provided by water companies I think a flat charge would be acceptable if (and only if) the levies went to improve the water quality and stop the appalling amount of water lost in damaged pipes...will those issues be attended to? - I leave you to surmise those questions' answers.
I'm afraid that, thanks to all sorts of 'misdeeds' on behalf of all sorts of people we find ourselves in a recessionary downward spiral and it isn't only ourselves who find the going a bit tough - even the poor TDs are feeling the pinch.
They are looking around for anything to create revenue - water charges will only be the start, believe me!
Water meters? - Let's not go there!!!
Shops? - Quite naturally if costs to them increase - it's a hard fact of life - but they will have to increase prices to factor in those extra charges.
Water changes? - Look at the excellent 'Recycle' thread, a lot of food for thought there.
I feel obliged to stress that these are my personal views as JohnH the Forum member and are not official ITFS Forum views.

There is a lot of disinformation doing the rounds then because it was said to me that all properties would be charged - this shows that that wasn't exactly 100% true.
That was an interesting comment about the Council having to test the well-water before it could be used - in almost six years no-one has been and tested mine!

If I dont give permission they will be trespassing. What can they do? cut me off? Not likely if enough people take the same track.

The meters will be located in the small shore/metal flap on your pavement outside your house, this shore is where your water can be turned on and off.I was talking to a guy in Dublin co council and he thinks it will be 3 years before these meters are fitted;).A fixed charge will be up and running in the new year:angry: This is what the meters look like...For me to pay any water charge the meter will have to be located where I am 100% sure that no one else is using the water after the meter(Would have to be inside my house) That means they have to gain access to fit it.
If I don't give permission they will be trespassing. What can they do? cut me off? Not likely if enough people take the same track.
