Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

got me new lights today and was chuffed to bits, cheers mark, and as i was sitting having a chat i prided myself on not having any health issues, so i set them up and bang now i've discovered i have the ich, you'l have to excuse the polite manner i'm using as there might be kids on board. now i added a few fish over the last while without qt (i know, i know i asked for it) and some plants, so a few things i want to know, can the parasite be on the fins, 2 can plants carry it as the fish i got look fine, it's only the loaches and one whiptail (all my old ones) showing signs, and number 3 are all ich meds loach and shrimp safe. i'm gonna slowly raise the temp starting tonight so wat shall i buy lads

nope im sure the gold gourami is the culprit, the unquarintined pig

score, my days of buying stuff i didn't need paid off i found a bottle of interpet white spot plus, any one use this? it has a pic of a loach on the bottle so i assume it is loach friendly, but any idea on shrimp oh and plants?

A Quarantine Tank Dar !.

Meds usually contain Copper, something Shrimp and scaleless Fish such as Loaches react badly to.

Do a search on Ich on the search part of this Forum , top right hand side of the Page, you'll get all the good info there.

Check the best before date on the Bottle !!

Re Shrimp, if Copper is in the ingredients, It may kill them, in fact, it's very likely to.

No Idea then Dar, if no copper and no contraindications then by all means go for it.

i know i know people are sick of the ich (wow that ryhmes) questions, ok so i treated the tank last night and boy did it turn blue so i got up this morning to check for casualities and all seems fine, is it normal for the dye to be completely gone after 6hours?

Story matey, Ich, what a pain in the proverbial.

The fact that the bottom feeders are only showin signs means it is not an infestation yet so you may have caught it early, nice one.

The blue light I find can make white stand out more, almost making the ich symptoms glow, almost like UV on white.

It never ends does it:) Glad to say only 1 ich infection from my first unckecked unqt'd purchace. So I think it needs tro be brought in and that it doesn't just occur in the tank.

Should indicate the meds are preventing reinfection of the fish. The white dots are a reaction to cysts, secreted by the fish, your meds may be doing the job on the freestyle swimmer cysts.

Its never boring when anything gets into the tank, I am practically OCD about it.
