Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

unfortunately my water straight out of the tap is green in colour; but rest of the parameters are fine like gh and ph for my africans.

Question: what is the easiest and most natural way to get rid of this green colour?

any help greatly appreciated.

Andrew, the colour of the Water from the tap is more of concern, is it that colour all the time, I mean , does it disappear after the Tap has been running? if not, i'd get the Water analyzed, that isn't right, I'd call whoever is responsible for the supply in your area.

To Hell with the Fish and anything else, are you seriously telling everyone here you are ingesting that crap and are only questioning it now? seriously?!.

GET IT SORTED, who knows what effect it is having on you and all in your House.

Another thing, the colour, Green, Black, Red, whatever, isn't the problem it's what's causing it that is.

ive had brown if there is road works going on, but a constant green is not right surely, i was thinking copper related? but i'd say the fish would be dead by now, Ian would be the man for this one

Pretty much andrew, you could just ring the local water authority and ask them, if they are bs ing you, demand they organise a representative to come to your house and take a sample, you should NOT be asked to either have a test privately done nor send samples in, if they test it and say it's fine, demand a written report, if you want, and are near me, Glasnevin, bring me a sample and I'll ask a Chemist in work to have look.

When you ring up about your water just say "it's an odd colour and it smells a bit". Regardless if it smells or not.
they should be out the next day.

If you are there yourself when they come out have a chat with the person taking the sample. You might pick up some info of them that is not in the report.

Where are you based?
Are you using water from a well?

How long has te water been like this? How old is the hourse?

It sounds like either copper or rust, or both.

UPDATE
Tuesday: rang the galway county council to make a complain
Today :heard back from the officer in charge of environment or something;
that the 'greeness' in the water is caused by the nearby lake where it is pumped from. something bout a 'bog' and algae.

i was just more concerned on whether it is safe for me and the fishes of course. thinking back it should as my cichlids have spawned few times.

he assured me it was 100 % safe for consumption. the good thing or rather bad thing is that i found out they are working on a project which will give us crystal clear water sometime in the coming weeks/months. i just hope i wont be so unlucky as to change my water when work is being done when the water is ultra dirty :(

thanks all for concern. i was gonna go use some algae treatment at first but i suppose i can wait few weeks now :)
