Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Do you have any sort of surface disruption? An air stone?
Tilt a filter upwards to break the surface to let C02 out and oxygen in.

Disrupt the surface constantly in your tank,4 hours isnt nearly enough.
Place your filter upwards.
Do a 50% water change.
Add some epsom salt to the tank to clear out the fishes systems. (A couple of pinches or 1/2tsp)
By the looks of things water clouded by egg should appear as nitrates on your readings?
Your filter needs to be cleaned but dont so it just yet!

I do agree with Chris that you should get more movement into the surface water. An air stone would be ideal.
It might just be the case that your plec has overeaten and will be OK.

It may be wise to do 20% water changes over the next few days to ensure you get all the egg out of your tank.
Egg and warm water aren't a good mix. It will most likely stink for a while. It will be like your own mini Liffey.

Ken.

It's been a week now, hopefully he is still with us. Assuming he is, don't try egg again, try a slice of courgette or cucumber. Also is there any bog wood in the tank, mine seem to spend a lot of time browsing on that. They dont go for pleco tabs very often but are growing fine, so bwtween algae, ocassionaly cucumber and bogwood they are doing fine.

You have been removing all the uneaten carrots etc which you fed unsucessfully? This should be done regigiously as decomposing food of any type (even vegetable) will soon sour your tank.
I'd be inclined to do daily water changes until symptoms cease.

all fish are now better and much happier did a good clean of the tank 80% water
Of 24C water with a small bit of dechlorinator hopefully not taking water from the hot tap (to avoid copper heavy metaL traces)
That would be a ecumenical matter!!!

I think I saw a 300w heater in the for sale section, may be too big for your needs though. Check it out.
