Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

You might try a vet, if you know one, they aren't keen to sell it other than to farmers and the like. I think it is a wormer for animals - especially pigs - so you would have to be fairly accurate with dosing.
Any further suggestions?

Look in 'search' above with callamanus as the search word, there have been posts here regarding the affliction before.

Hiya,

I have Jungle anti-parasite medicated Food with levamisole and others as active ingredients, new pack, unopened 10 Euro. If you are interested, it is reccommended for Calamanus Worm.

Hi Thanks for the replies

I may have over reacted or under depending.

here is the situation one of my fish had a long red dangly thing on his underside about 2-3 centimeters long.
An hour later it was a third the size and now is completely gone.

Do my fish have callamanus worms or could this have been something else I don't know weither to threat them or wait and see.

Also can pleco's get callamanus worms if they are in the same tank.

Stretnik have you ever used jungle anti paratite food to kill callamanus worms as i have read they are immune to most fish medication.

Google it, the Jungle anti-Parasite meds specifically refer to Callamanus Worms as it contains Levamisole, the Drug you were looking for, have you another alternative? if not, isn't it worth a try.

I haven't used it for that specific parasite as I have never encountered it but it worked on others I have.

By The Way, Levamisole is the active ingredient of Pancur and in this med it is already mixed to the correct strength, mixing raw Drugs for livestock is risky business.

Hi strenik I wasn't trying to demeen the product you have i'm just looking for advice I'm already out of my depth I mailed Daragh a forum mod as he had the same problem he suggested i get a product called sera nematol.

When i researched it I doses the water and not the fish food so theoretically it should kill all the worms I ordered it within minutes of getting his mail but now i don't know if I even have these worms from the initial symptoms it is callanus worms but even the original fish isn't showing any symptoms.

If i add the nematol to the water and the fish aren't infected can they be harmed or is it better for me to threat them just in case.

there is so much information out there on these little buggers its hard to know what to use.

Oh not at all, don't worry, didn't think that at all, this can be like Instant messager or Skype, misinterpreted occasionally. Treating new wildcaught Fish is something done regularly by Discus or Angel keepers, they don't take any chances. I have used the sera on Malawis etc and it worked fine, I couldn't treat one Fish so all got a dose like it or not without any problems, with Sera it's carried in the Water, with Food the Fish have to be eating to get the meds in. By the way, these Worms can and do retract into the Anus/digestive tract so I'd err on your Diognosis being correct and medicate, sometimes the Faeces can look red, depending on the food being fed but they arent thick, if it's a worm, you'll know.

sera nematol. The stuff works very well not only treating the worm but also any eggs that might have been laid, what fish do you have in your tank and how recently was the last fish introduced,

Caution when using sera nematol it is very stong any inverts dont like it
