Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Listen fella....
If this doesn't work out as quick as you would like, the offer i made by email a few days ago still stands
There's a 100 litre tank not being used sitting in the house not being used!!!
Im still getting the 190 setup and will be sticking at that and the 60 for a few months before i go looking at setting up the 100!!!!!
Email me again if you need it for a bit!!!!
Thanks again hammie
I been to my lfs and he said he is ok with keeping the fish for another week so I have more time.
I also been to a glass repair shop in Tullamore and one of the lads there repaired a few tanks. I will have mine fixed tomorrow with either 6mm glass bottom or 4mm glass over the crack glass

I would change the glass and use 6mm and not put more glas over the cracked.Better in the long run.
+1 on that, i can only see the other option ending in disaster so being the tank bottom your best to do it right pal

I went for a full new bottom glass in my tank and replaced the broken glass, my test for water leeks were not good. when i added about 10 ltr of water all looked ok but after i added another 10 ltr water it started to leak.
it looks like the glue didn't take to all of the glass. should i get it re-glued then put in the silicone?
over 8 hours it leeked about 2 ltr.
here is a file photo just to give you a idea

often on tanks that size a bead of silicone between the glass only is enough to stick together and seal the glass tank without the need for any internal sealing so i'm wondering if there may have been any residue left from the previous silicone to hinder the curing process

I'd go with Davys suggestion! Or if you are no longer comfortable doin it yourself, give sea horse or some of the other sponsors a call
A few quid spent now at this stage could be well worth it........

i would re do it pal, how long did you leave it to cure?... you may be able to strip the silicone & residue from the inside and run a bead around the bottom to seal it... how does the silicone between the panes look?
often on tanks that size a bead of silicone between the glass only is enough to stick together and seal the glass tank without the need for any internal sealing so i'm wondering if there may have been any residue left from the previous silicone to hinder the curing process
When i have the tank empty and push the bottom glass up again the front glass it seals but once i let it go it moves away just enogh for the water to weep, it only happene in the two areas highlighted in red all the rest of thank sealed perfect.

it may be worth sealing the inside because i had a 70L tank before that all the silicone between the glass had loosened and all that held it together perfectly sealed was the inside sealing bead of silicone... that tank was a wobbly as hell and never gave in lol

when you first siliconed the bottom to the rest did you put a weight on the tank bottom (with tank upside down of course) to keep the 2 tight? just sounds like there may be 2 much movement to me.
it may be worth sealing the inside because i had a 70L tank before that all the silicone between the glass had loosened and all that held it together perfectly sealed was the inside sealing bead of silicone... that tank was a wobbly as hell and never gave in lol
its the wobbly bit i am worried about
