Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi,

Do you have a smartphone?
Do you want a mobile version of the forum?

If so, please vote. If there is enough interest, I'll put together a mobile version

Thanks
Darragh

The mobile version would better fit the iPhone, etc i.e. smaller banners, smaller menus, etc

I think its a great idea iv never had any problems but when your reading posts you can't see who's post it is! unless you keep going side to side I know I'm being really lazy here but with the mobile version you wouldn't have to do that :)

Thanks Darragh

Ps How about an App! ha ha I'm joking :)

I voted "none" but I do recall this coming up as a topic last(?) year from an established member - Ian (Not IGM though, the other Ian).
At that time there was limited interest but more and more 'smart'phones are becoming commonplace so I have to agree that for users of those machines a mobile version would be a boon.

I personally am still using a really old Motorola phone - and (surprise, surprise) I don't even understand how to work that. Still, horses for courses - I suppose.

I'm sure we will be able to switch between the two so if you don't like the mobile version you can go back to the desktop.
So don't vote no people! But I could be wrong :)

Hi Darragh , just a quick note . Dunno if anyone else is having the same problem .... My mobile phone in a nokia n85 ... I have never had any problems using the forum on either mobile internet or wireless access , but since the recent change to the forum i can no longer log in true my phone . ..... the headings for the login and password window appear no problem , but the boxes where one would type in this information don't appear . As i said i have never had any problems using the forum with either this phone or my previous nokia n95 .

Anyway , maybe i'm the only person having this problem but just thought i better let you know ..

All the best

Martin

I think it would be great. I use taptalk and similar programs for a few other forums on the mobile and they are pretty handy.

People who don't get lost in Limerick, for example, and end up at the Fire Station?
