Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hola/Hi everyone

I'm Lydia and I moved from Spain last year with my husband and my dog, now I have two adopted cats also. Besides animals I like tv shows, cooking/eating spanish food, playing videogames and reading graphic novels.

I've thinking about buying a fish tank since I used to have one (-200l) some years ago in Spain (now I had to sell it because my parents needed to get rid of it and I could not bring it here since is a mess so this has been definetely a detonator).

The tank I'm looking for can't be too big because I don't have really too much room (for now.. ), so I'm looking for a 180l.

I've been reading a lot of info here very helpfull, wish I have found this in past years when I had the ocurrence of buying 3 pairs of cichlids for my community tank (first time I saw such colorful and no marine fishes)...and that was fraking apocalyptic

So right now I don't have a tank, I have to check one with a guy this weekend and let's see if I have luck and can start with it soon. I will be keeping you informed and for sure I will ask for advice.

Sorry for my english, is not quite good.

Welcome to the Forum Lydia.
I don't think your English is 'not quite good' it seems OK to me.

I wish you luck in your plan to get a 180l tank over the weekend. Please let us know how you get on.

If you do have any questions needing answers just ask away, someone will be able to advise you, I'm certain.

I was thinking about a male betta, about 10 cardinal neon, some mollys, 4 corys and some shrimps.
Do you think it will work?

Thanks both for your welcomes :)

Thanks Andreas :) . I've been having a look at your blog, you have interesting DIY things and the community tank that is more than 30 years old is impresive, did you bought all the cardinals or had your own fry?

you should read his books... amazing...

Thanks Lydia, that explains my one blog view this week :P
That tank is not mine, it's my father's tank but i do know that he bought 100 cardinals at one time. I have no idea if they reproduced in the tank but he certainly did not breed any deliberately, good point though i'll have a look and see if i can spot some smaller ones when I'm over the next time.

Thanks anglecichlid. I think I watch it once a year, thats because the lack of good movies I've been suffering these last years (main reason I started watching more Tv series than movies).

Welcome on board Lydia.

Thanks Mr B :)

Melander the week have just started, you'll have more visitors for sure. Some years ago when I had my community-cichlid crazy setup my cardinals breeded so I imagine that in your father's tank would be easy for them.
