Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi I am Morlo, live in the south west of Co. Cork on the Beara peninsula with my dog Pepper, cat Cleo, Kwik and Kwek my ducks and my fish tank which I got from my husband Joukeder. He made me a promise, about 20 years or more ago, when we went to Ireland that I would get a marine tank. Yes, yes It took him quite a while but he kept his promise! I feel responsible for the health and wealth of my fish and joukeder is my technical assistant! He made a fully automatic system, so light pumps UV filter and cooler are all programmed and run full automatic. One of the most exciting things of having a cold water marine tank, is visiting rock pools and catching the most interesting and beautiful creatures. Even for a lot of neighbours it is an eye opening experience when they see what lives just under the water surface. I have registered on this site because I like to know more about the water conditions; e.g. how to keep mearl and calcified algae their colours and how to keep seaweed and kelp alive in combination with some fish and marine invertebrates. Hope to learn a lot from all your expertise.
xx

Lucky indeed Bmcg. Not only because she is patient but more importantly because she is an equal partner with the tank and very knowledgeable with the chemistry part of it.

Well, this intro means I will step back a bit with posting because the build-up phase is now more/less complete and the consolidation/development phase is beginning.
But I will keep in touch.
Especially when Morlo and I don't agree :P

Welcome Morlo :)

It's really nice you share your hobby with your husband, in my case mine does not like fish keeping at this time but we do like (or don't) more or less the same things.

What a breath of fresh Air, the Husband not having to sneak things past his Wife!!!!!!! Lovely!

Welcome along, not many here that can advise you better than your other half and Crusty Crab.

We, on the East coast have to deal with less than optimal conditions when looking for pristine waters.

...yep, we have been known to offer a really good advise (a bit like an agony aunt) service on how to creep around the wife/girlfriend to get a bigger tank or even additional tanks.

So.....that advise service is probably not needed here ;)

Welcome to forum.

Homer, do you also have a native tank?
If so we could perhaps send you things that we find and you are interred in...
