Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Well the usual happened checked the on arriving home on sunday and eggs gone
At the end of the day Robert they are spawning it really is only a matter of time before it will click for them.
My angels spawned last night then eggs all gone this morning they are in the community tank so I wouldn't expect the eggs to ever materialise.
The one thing you have to understand is that it's out of your control and it could take 20 more times of laying eggs for them to let them hatch.
Giving them the right conditions is all you can do the rest is up to them.
Just stay patient and it will eventually click.
Regards
Craig

If your looking to breed them after they have laid eggs take them out put an air stone with the flow of air going over the eggs and wait till they hatch.

Bingo , just looked into the tank with the new pair of angels and at the back of the breeding cone i see about a dozen wrigglers . Now i need help , what do i feed these on when they become frre swimming , need something i can buy not into brine shrimp hatcheries . Could i use flake food crushes to a very fine dust , also heard of a food called first bits does anyone know anything about it . Am really excited about this , can i assume that later spawnings will hatch in bigger numbers , getting gready now
The first bites stuff you will have to order it online I don't think any where sells it.
I got mine in the states picked it up for a potential spawn and they had spawned when I came back I also have liquid fry I never used if you want to drop out to me tomorrow you can have the liquid fry and the rest of the pack of first bites
Congrats on the spawn

Just brought a secondhand 30 litr tank this morning am going to set for the angel fish fry , and believe it or not the platiums spawned last night in their tank but dont know as yet if the eggs are fertile , so interesting times ahead
So are you moving the fry away from the parents?

By the time i got the new tank set up the parents had eaten all the fry , so i think next time i will move the eggs just before they become free swimming , what do you think ?
Myself personally I would leave the parents in with the fry for the next couple of spawns and see how they get on as Angels are super parents and will raise there fry to be very confident fish.......obviously if they continue eating them then plan B will have to be used.
Are the 2 pairs of Angels in the same tank and is there other occupants aswell?

Hi , no the two pairs of angels are in diffent tanks , the platiums that i have had all the hassle with spawned last night , so i moved the piece of slate into the new tank , not sure if any of the eggs are fertile . I spoke to the guy i got them from and he asured me he had two lots of fry from them . So now its a waiting game again , but at least this time i am better prepared .
Cool........if you haven't already then get your hands on some methylene blue.......with no parents there to tend to the eggs fungus might grow on them and they could all die before they get to wriggler stage.....Methylene blue will sort that though ok.
And are the other pair that spawned in with other fish?...i'm just wondering could the free swimmers being eaten by other fish when the lights are out and not by the parents

Both pairs in seperate tanks by themselves . Will have to get some methaline blue tomorrow . All i had was malicite green for the pond put a tiny amount of that in the tank with the eggs , most of them are white so not fertile . But time will tell .
Malacite green will also do the job........hopefully there is a few fertile........I would be optimistic about the other pair though so keep the faith ok

Being to lazy to reread all the post, were these from your original pair or from the 2nd pair you got?
It’s graet to see you have fry, lets hope some make it to be fully grown.
Makes me want to get mine out my tank and see what they will do!!
