Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

For the scape it will be very simple.......White sand (hopefully) and some nice root wood suspended down........I have a lot of some really nice pieces down in the shed so I can fiddle around with a few different pieces until I'm happy with it.......I also have a fair few small bits of bog wood so I might put a few bits on the substrate aswell,we will see..........I will pick up a few different types of Anubias over the next couple of weeks and i'll glue them to the wood and that should be that.
I don't normally like lights on in the tank but I got a unit I have that had the on/off switch broken fixed and I bought some 'very warm white' 35w tubes for it (I was using 80w in the past) so when its all scaped i'll see how they look and take it from there.
Anyway i'm off Monday and Tuesday so hopefully I will pick up some white sand then and then I could start tying some pieces of wood with cable ties and i'll then start posting pics of the progress ( with JohnH's help that is

Did you see any nice Angels over in Kinsealy Damian?.........and fill me in on these rare fish please?........I've being going through a love/hate relationship with kinsealy for a few years now for different reasons but I think its time to go back over for a look........if nothing else the banter with the lads can make it a good visit

This is were i'm at now and the next step is to get some Anubias, but I might just stick them to the wood on the base and keep the suspended wood the way it is with maybe just a few leaves stuck in and around it.
Here's a short video of it now:

Did the Builder's Silica Sand need much washing, Ger?
It is prewashed John...........the water when I added first got a bit dusty but cleared overnight to be crystal clear but I added 8 Bristlenoses a little while back and with all there fanning and burrowing the water is dusty again.........I've filter floss stuck to the base of a wavemaker so i'll let the Pleco's and the floss do there thing.

That's interesting - the thing which turns me off using sand any more is the aggravation involved in the washing of it.
Maybe I'll get a bag when I bring the Geos over.
Speaking of which...their feeding style will outdo any cloudiness the Ancistrus could create, they're constantly grubbing around the substrate, taking in mouthfuls and sifting it through their gills - it's how they tend to feed and cloudy water becomes a by-product of this process - so be warned!!!

Euro 9.30 a 25kg bag John.
Ah no John, cloudiness or even bits of leaves, courgette or whatever floating around the water doesn't bother me in the slightest........and i'd be pretty sure (even though they haven't told me this personally ha) that the fish aren't bothered either!!

In my opinion I wouldn't put cardinals in there as they have very strong colors and would break the equilibrium the tank has now, maybe a shoal of ember tetras would add a bit of color but won't get all the protagonism at the same time.

Thanks Lydia...........I hear what your saying about about there strong colour and I reckon your probably right so I think i'll give them a miss.....what I was debating about them wasn't anything to do with there colour but was the amount of strong flow I have in the tank and would they be able to handle it as well as the Penguins I have but thinking about there colour I wont be going for them anyway soooooooooo......................I just looked at a couple of videos of Ember Tetras and I can see why you suggested them.......but like the Cardinals i wonder could they handle strong flow?.......and have you seen any around the shops? cheers

Dunno if they can stand a strong flow, used to have a big shoal of them in my 180 and they were pretty active swimmers.
I got mine from Homer and some more from SH but sold all of them to Trent when I sold the tank, as you can see fish stays within the forum lol
