Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

After waiting some months finally today I got this guy from Seahorse! (They had like 3 or 4 more males and females)
I'm really happy with him right now, he is exploring all the tank and eating small snails from the glass.

I took this pictures from my nexus I'll post better ones asap.

I've named him Ixion

You finally got him Lydia. Looking good.

Give him a treat of live Dafnia from time to time. He will love them.

Lovely fish. And nice to see a betta not ending up in a teeny tiny tank

Thanks guys I'm very happy with him, until now he's a good boy with the rest of fishes, tylomelanias and amanos. Maybe I should bought the female too, John (from Seahorse) told me that if enough plants they could be there together but I wasn't sure. Seems he loves the place, unless is sleeping at night he's very active.

Ian, do you have any betta at the moment?

Darren yes I put yesterday a bag of daphnia there but between him and the others ate everything in a blink. One question do you know how old is him?

The only thing is I'm thinking about changing my background for one lighter since I can't see him when lights are off...

Bought a pair very similar from seahorse yesterday. Very happy with them. Going to give them another couple of months before i try breed them. I presume there from the shipment that yours came in on so i reckon they're no more than 4-5 months old at the very most. How is he settling in for you ?

That's great Eric put some pics of the pair! Do you have them at the same tank? Wish you luck with them I'd love to breed him to but right now I don't have enough tanks. Keep me updated about them!

Mine started hiding like 3 or 4 days ago, is always between the plants and sometimes comes out but nothing compared with the first days :(

Hi Lydia your Beta looks really nice -way better than mine  ,
do you remember when you were here i couldnt find him for ages cause he was hiding ?and its always like that .. Sometimes i do think that poor thing is missing for a couple of days and then it just casually comes out to get some air ..
Not the most entertaining fish in my opinion still beautiful though .
Anyway im glad that you finally got what you wanted !!
Good Luck with it ;)

I was thinking in making some kind of bait kinda fly but with a betta look so he came out to defend his territory.

stick your make-up mirror near the glass so he can see himself ;)

Are make up mirrors the round ones with a base? I don't like make up so I'm a bit lost in this. Don't have any smaller than 3ft...think I should buy one smaller

I'm not sure a mirror would be such a good idea. It could possibly lead to him being stressed out trying to fight his reflection all the time. Or alternatively, fighting it for a while until he gets bored and gives it up.

I let my bettas see each other for bout 5 mins twice a day. I find it keeps them active and fit. I would recommend using a mirror but only for short spells 5-10 mins at a time. Its the best time to take pictures of them as well when they're in full flare
