Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Happens I have 3 tylomelania orange and don't know the sex of them. Two of them has been at my tank for 3 months or so and no luck. But this Saturday I went to Seahorse and bought one black with yellow antena and the next day she left an unexpected gift. It's one of the cutest criatures I've seen.

Will post more pics when he/she is closer again.

They are hard to sex, not much difference between the sexes. Get a group of 6 and athe oddsare in your favour of them breeding

nice find in the tank, I bought a group of these recently, within a couple of days I spotted a baby, then another I now have 4 young in the tank, I lost two of the adults, I think probably because either I did not acclimatise them slowly enough or more likely they were killed by an apisto that was in the tank, I have noticed this with apistos before, particularly baenchi, they cruised the tank and bit the horns off any assassin snails they came across, I spotted that one doing the same to the rabbit snails in the tank.
Back to the rabbit snails, I read that that newly transferred snails often give birth prematurely when introduced to a new tank, the babies however grow on fine, no problems with them.
sexing them . I hav'nt a clue, other than spotting them mating, then you know you have both sexes, I have seen mine on the front glass mating, but trying to remember which patterned snail was a male or a female isn't easy!

actually I don't I wrote that line badly!
I don't think they can be sexed visually, I suppose the only way would be to separate the two you see mating into separate containers, wait till the female gives birth and then you can say that is female, an that is male.!

take crustycrabs advice and get a good sized group to increase your chances of both sexes, or stare at them in a tank and watch for a pair mating

I think I've seen my oranges mating and also I think I've seen the white cover were the babys are born but nothing came out of it. I will surely increase the population buying some more. Would love to see a cross between the oranges and black too.

What colors are yours Joe? Where did you get them?

Thanks Denis, was awesome when I spotted the baby there.

Last week I found another baby from the black, looks the lady came with reserves! I've noticed the black ones, both babies and the mother are lazier than the orange ones, which are pretty active.

mine are a sort of creamy colour, with greenish grey lines, I will charge up the camera battery and take a picture of them tomorrow when I get a chance.

Waiting for your pics Joe!
