Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I don't think I'll be bringing Fish but do have a brand new copy of Culturing Live Foods - an excellent read - donated by Amazon (very nice of them wasn't it?).

I'll see what else I can cobble together for Sunday.

I'm not sure what happened there but we sent a 'system' PM to all users and, if my inbox is anything to go by, it was 'sent' three times! (At least I got the message in triplicate!).

Sorry for that.

Thanks for a great day today. I managed to bag a few bargains. A lot of effort goes into organising a day like today and it doesn't go unappreciated by those who make the effort to lend their support.

Thanks again to Daragh, Nessa, John, etc.

Regards,

Ken.

Another great fish keeper’s day out.

Back from the Auction and that’s me with enough reading material to do me until the next auction. All at incredibly cheap prices. I mean they couldn’t print it for those prices. e.g. 90euro book for 5euro.
I picked up loads of bits and pieces (most of it new) that I know I will use. Filters, treatments etc….
I also picked up some quality fish to add to my collection. Hats off to those that put the time in to breeding them.

It really felt like the more you spent the more you saved, and all going to such a good cause.
Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services really is a worthy cause. To see how comfortable they make the people feel and to always be in top form creates such an atmosphere like nowhere else. They deserve any boost they can get.
So a big thanks to all that attended, the organizers, the breeders and those that brought all the quality dry goods.

Thank you, Darren.

I echo everything you say Ken - it was nice to see you today and to finally meet with Andreas, Lord only knows how long we have been corresponding!
It was nice to renew acquaintances with many other of the ITFS members - this is the first Club function I have been able to attend since I crashed my car which put me off the road for a few months (feels like much longer!).
It was a really pleasant afternoon and I think I can safely say that you weren't the only one to come away with a good pile of bargains!

The only downside for me was the traffic headed for Croke Park, it added at least an hour to my drive from here to there. As I remarked to someone after I finally got there - I didn't think there were that many people in Clare and Cork let alone there being that many cars!!!

Overall a great day, anyone who didn't come - you missed a good'un!

John
ps Thanks for the Fish Bart, I almost forgot those!
pps The traffic along the M7 heading home was even worse than coming to Dublin - but a small price to pay for a great afternoon - laced with some excellent buys.

great day with amazing bargains all round. there were books and all sort of equipment in nearly new condition and the standard of the fish was extremely high. some of the fish available today were the best I have seen for ages and although I didn't intend to bid for fish they were too good to pass on and they are now swimming happily in quickly prepared tanks. it was great meeting up with old friends and meeting a few new ones.
a decent sum of money was collected for a worthy cause, so well done to the organisers and thanks also to all the people who supported this event.
daragh and john were esp. good as auctioneer and assistant.

This being the first fish auction I have attended I have to say that I had a great time.

There were so many good bargains to be had, the event would have been perfect for someone just starting out or getting back into the hobby. You could get a complete set up for next to nothing.

@John, it was great meeting you to, hopefully it will not be another four years until the next time. I will certainly try to attend events like this more often. In general it was nice to meet and put faces to the names here on the forum.

Many thanks to the organizers and to the many generous sellers/donators.

Andreas
