Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

haha, I was just about to dump the bag, I had loads about a liter left over and i saw it! Took it out, got excited because I figured that there would be loads of bacteria on it....ran to tank, dipped it in and gave it a massive squeezing into the internal filter! :)

Lets see how it looks tomorrow. I'm just hoping to see nitrites...i have seen ammonia and nitrates but want to see the colour change in nitrites...if not...I'm not going to worry!! :)

Hay what fish is

<
that?

Just a quick update on the tank situation...its now 01:15 and the new bacteria have gone in since about 21:00 or so. The nitrites have now reached 40 to 80 ppm (they were at 20)...its difficult to tell the difference. There is 0 nitrite...all I get is zero for nitrite!! and there is about 1.5ppm Ammonia.

Seems good already...See how long it takes to lower this 1.5ppm Ammonia!! :)

Maybe this rise in Nitrate is from the tank water I got from processor...will have to see!! 8)

Ok things are looking up, Nitrites have begun rising now...and I'm having to put in about 10 - 20 drops of Ammonia per day...which is alot...the nitrites have gone from 0 when I posted the reply above and today its now 0.5. I haven't bothered to look at the nitrates...think I made a mistake with the test I did previously to give 40 - 80...I tested the next day and it was constantly 10.

So now that I know things are working...I wont bore ya all with silly questions!!

O and I joined the ITFS (at least its in the mail!!)

The subscription to the LFKS is cheaper. All you have to do is set a pint of the black stuff in front of Anto.

He may even share his secrets on euthanising fish.

Regards,

Ken.

hahaha...now I dont know about that...haha...a pint of the black stuff costs 3.80 and in dublin you're looking at 4.50 or something along those lines!!

My subscription is 3 euro...so cheaper than a nice smooth cooling pint!! :)

Pity eh!!
