Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey all. I never bothered buying a temp reader, as the tank was just cycling and the heater cannot be turned up or down . yesterday when I picked up a digital temperature reader on the way home. My tank will not rise above 22 degrees. It is in the kitchen. Just looked at blades shrimp page and looks Like that is a good temperature for all shrimp. Any ideas. I know folks keep them as high as 28 degrees

22 is fine for most shrimps.
If you keep neocaridina species you can have higher temp if you want them to breed faster bur increasing their metabolism rate they will have a shorter life span i was told.
I kept mine at 25 c because i had fishes with them.

Floating plants look really well, do they not take away light from submerged plants tho?

Everything came in good thanks for asking aroshni. But i have a small number of snail that appeared from no where.Que the assassin snail introduction to the tank.
Wackoo it's only a small tank I will try to get a few pics tomorrow
The plants in there do not require huge amounts of light. If they require more I will sort it out...what are your concerns

Hope you have more luck than me with the assassin. Mine 'the vegan pacifist' went back to seahorse today because he didn't kill none, all the fracking day sleeping and everyday got more snails so I dediced to take it back to seahorse and brought with me a pair of orange rabbit snails which at least are beautiful.

There are five assasins now in there to clean up, i will take 3 out after the job is done, as i know a poor soul that bough a ramshorn snail, 3 week later he is infested, he also has hundreds of pond snails...
There are also a few more inhabitants in there now..i will put some pics up later....

Do you still have a snail problem.

Orange rabbit snails look cool
