Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thanks for positing this derek ,i was thinking of bringing a large ca cichlid do you think it would be possible to catch the fish in a large container or would a net for koi be better
John

If you can manouvre the fish into a plastic tub, this is best. if possible avoid netting larger fish, but if it is necessary then make sure to place hand under net to support fish and prevent it being damaged by its own weight.

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

Any updates on the amounts of entries Andrew?

As the bulk of my Fish are away 'on holiday' in D6 I don't yet know what, or how many I'll be submitting but there will be some, I promise.

Sound advice (as ever) from Derek et al.

Not long to go now, time to start preparing your lists for Andrew.

@ john i dont think there are any entries yet [except half of mine] Andrew can confirm this.i wouldnt be to worried just yet going by the experience from the last shows ,it always seems to be the last minute .i suppose the way fish keeping is they can be fine one minute and then go down very quickly so most people will wait just in case.

hello all
were now up to 25 fish entered which is not bad considering there still over a week to go
if anybody is a bit daunted by benching fish for the first time there will be lots of help available at the show and if you have any questions in the meantime just ask.
REMEMBER A SHOW WILL ONLY BE AS GOOD AS THE EFFORT PUT IN AND THIS IS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE YOUR BEUTIFUL FISH TO PEOPLE THAT WOULDNT NORMALLY GET A CHANCE

Someone asked me over the weekend if they needed to be a member of a club to enter fish in the show - NO YOU DON'T - it is an "open" show - open for all to enter fish and to attend on the Sunday.

Are there any other misbeliefs/understandings about the show that i can help answer?? Please let me know or PM if you're unsure about posting a request on this thread...

So don't forget to fill in your details online and bring your entries to us this Saturday from early evening onwards (bring plenty of water).....here is the link Open Show ONLINE ENTRY FORM and it also appears in my signature below.

I'll be there
actually I can't wait
it's gonning to be cool
feels like ages ago since the last one (when I won the Aquarium that the shop I worked in at the time supplied, I was so embarrassed when My ticket no. was called, especially when everyone in the place was shouting out FIX, FIX, IT'S A FIX !!!, HaHaHa pure funny actually when I think back :) )
really looking forward to it this year
I'm entering a few fish this time, first time to enter fish, sure why not ?

so come on Guys and Gals, enter some of Your little Beauties into the Show !!!
(and between Us All, We'll make it a Show to remember)

see You All there

I don't remember you being embarrassed Des, I just think you shouldn't be allowed to enter any raffles this time around (and that goes for a certain Antipodean gentleman [who wins most of the prizes in raffles] too).
Actually, on thinking about this further we should sell you both tickets but not put the duplicates into the draw box!
I'll have a word with the raffle tickets organiser to that effect - so buy away, buy loads of tickets!!!
:evil: :evil: :evil:

I'm going to try to make it over to the Show as well.

So things were kicking off today - the tanks were all hand-balled carefully onto the truck, first thing in the morning they'll be carefully placed for inspection & cleaning ready to be filled by your entries - get busy folks - pick your favourite specimens, bag them up - bring some extra water & fill in the entry form

The Team working on putting the show together must be zapped.....and it ain't over yet.

Loading and un-loading a lorry load of tanks;
building the staging;
constant monitoring of a great assortment of some very nice fish fish right through the night;
and remaining friendly, helpful and pleasant at all times.

Hopefully.....there is a good crowd turn up today.

Best wishes for all those who entered fish.
