Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Due to fact that i"m not using solenoids. I was starting with co2 at 6:15 at the morning right before I Job at that time and switching it off together with light around 8 at nihgt. Now is 2-1h before light and off before ar even after if I forgot about them. And I don'e see big diference.
But one is surre if u switch it on earlier it will be less problematic than if You'll switch it off 2h after.

EDIT:CO2 Day and night cycle is different from the chemical point of view, thats why we should not use CO2 at nioght.

About bubbling , with 0,35w/l no bubbles, 0,7w/l some bubbles shown, after i reach 1,1w/l they are coming like creazy :)

If You want Your Ehinodrus tennellus to grow faster on front, give him a week from planting and trim him, leave like 1in from bottom. That way You will stimulate it to make new runners. ET is an invasiv plant so You wan't mix it with any other forreground plant.

Nice start any way !!

After planting, give rooting a week, after week as the plants grown up, cut them 1-1.5 in above the ground.
DO not remove them :)

One small tip, takes on the appearance of your aquarium, but prevent such a large symmetry.
Nature does not love the symmetry.
Instead of doing a wall of Echinodorus amazonicus, plant them in the group with one side and the other find another similar plant. This way you give your aquarium personality and it will not look artificial.

This is just advice. I always say that is important that aquarium owner have to likes it.

, posac him

It means: plant it/them

If you like such 'grass' plants - have a look at blyxa japonica - one of my favourite first plan plant. I would also recommend you planting some more fast growing plants to speed the nitrogen circle. Maybe there is somebody who could share with some valisneria with you. maybe the plant itself is not very attractive but it should help with the circling. Then you could give it away to somebody else. :) There are many other fast growing plants you can plant for a while or for good. Just brows the Net. I think Plantica has well designed page with plants' descriptions.

Nice tank Sean. Just a little tip,As your plants grow and thicken up,trim them to create a V shape 3 quarter ways in tank (NOT CENTRE). In other words slope em from high in corner, going down, then back up to other corner, this will give you a better aquascape, give it more depth, try not to create a curtain at back as it looks unnatural.Plant some medium sized plants at side glass too (crypts)for example, draw your eye into the tank.Place your driftwood so it looks natural, like a tangled root,DON'T place wood, stones or plants in symetery(in other words no mirror images)For example have wood on one side & some small stones on other. Have an Amazon sword on left & some crypts on the right etc. You've got good substrate and equipment so your plants will grow. Just a few tips, hope you don't mind. Plants and fish look great.Fairplay to ya. :)

No mouth bigger than the smallest fish in tank.
