Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Decided to try and scape the tank to simulate a real reef, after lots of reading and pics from divers ect. I see the days of filling the tank side to side top to bottom with live rock is gone out the window fish need space epically if you keep tangs
So I done a main feature that catches the eye first glance, kept the rock medium height and let it drop a little on one side and allot on the other with a few caves and tunnels with nice lines and 12 corals around this area
Then a second feature but not as stunning similar but smaller and less but very nice corals
The two islands should almost meet as if their one but having a nice bit of sand between to create space
So this is what I came up with still a few little tweaks to be done but I can see now what I'm looking for this is a night shot will get some day shots tomorrow, hope you like

Thanks bud call in next time ur passing pics do nothing for it

Lost my baby in the old tank only thing I ever lost since going salty very disappointed, still am,
Only thing I can think of is I never used a top up unit to keep things stable so maybe that pi,,ed it off
And as you know my torches were never 100% but since the new setup with a top up unit they are now looking much better and extending more

Maybe in another few wks I can convince the wife to let me spend another €120 on one coral (actually valentines day is coming soon) hehe might get her to buy this one, one can dream

Yours is looking amazing fair play

But it would look better in my tank haha

Sorry to hear that Jeff, my elegance was also my wifes present so go for it, just be good to her this next 2 weeks!

I will hold you to your offer, I might pop over one evening or even during the weekend. Would love to see that tank!

I have heard of the elegance to be a bit of a lottery in regards their care. Mine seems indestructible. It survived a major tank crash, doesnt seem to mind different salinity levels, he doesnt care about the shrimps jumping on him, the clowns spend all the time in it, I move him every now and then trying to find the best place for him, some of its polyps got stuck in the overflow box (I have fixed that now) and not a bother... I have heard of other elegance dying without any warnings.

Mine is getting bigger by the minute, it occupies, when fully expanded, more than half of the aquarium. And I have reduced the lighting period as well as feeding to stop him from growing but he doesnt seem to care. Also my nitrates are high (around 10-15) but he doesnt mind that either. So I am very luck.

I need to upgrade and soon... I am in between red sea max 250 or a aquaone 300. Decisions, decisions!
