Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

+1

Tank looks great and it's really nice to be able to follow it step by step like this.

I especially like the "creepy crawlers".

Ok this is it added the last few corals over the last two weeks and Im finished adding anymore it was a struggle fitting the last two in so decided I'm full now it's time to let it grow and mature it's taken me around 10mts to get this far and it was a joy building it up
Here is the last of the photo's for about 6mts and il do a few more and see the growth difference
Hope I done the topic justice for the forum with enough Info and pics
And a big thank you for all the comments and encouragement

Cheers

Any recent pictures Jeff. I came on to ask you what's your cleaning routine with the filters. Do you wash the micro mec. Are the levels staple enough I keep reading about how bad they are but from what I can see it's people jumping on the bandwagon who have probably never used one

Howye mate I was having to many problems with my Blue tang so decided to rehome him but it ment stripping my tank of nearly all rock (gutted) so tank is now a bit different now I'm going to do a few new pics tomorrow

Maintenance I clean front and side glass every second day
I do 10% wc every 2 week's And top up with ro in between so that becomes every two weeks it does only be around 2 ltrs
Floss is changed every week
Micro mec has only been shaken out twice in the last year
Filter is Never cleaned just siphon out carp at the end of it around every 3/4 mts.
A new thing I've been doing is every month just giving the rocks a blow over with a turkey baster to keep them mint (you'd be surprised what comes Off them)
Powerheads, uv unit, skimmer, hood, filter tubes (inlet outlet) all get a good clean every 6mts

As for testing really only keep an eye on

Kh
Cal
Mag
Po3
Po4
Sg

Nitrate have never been over 3 and that's with feeding corals I could get it to zero if I stop feeding coral food but be need as the corals prefer them around 2-3
phosphate is always The same 0.002 witch is impressive

The wc every 2wks keeps everything else fine

That's about it will follow Up with some pics tomorrow Of New look and coral growth and some new comers
