Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

cool
love the bangai and the snowflake blennie will have ya on the constant hunt for him
what type of wrasse is that????
I can never go in to seahorse and walk out with just what I went in for
Too true always need to buy something, it's a lubbocks fairy wrasse, all are feeding already so that's a good sign & the blenny is already hard to find, keep finding him in a different nook or crannie so think he's just trying to find a home

Think nearly everyone is trying these kind of covers now....
The proper kits are an absolute fortune...so I keep on saying I might try something like this.

Think I may need to put another layer of netting overlapping it because the holes might be too large or try get a net with smaller holesNo looks cool

I have a glass lid on mine which has several breaks in it....which is why I was thinking of one....was looking on YouTube though at some of the really advanced reefers in America and all of them have glass tops ...but there all running metal halides as well so make make sense for them..
There is some super cheap mesh on adverts that might be good if ya can get it in a big enough size.

I was lucky enough, I got mine in work it was supposed to be for a Bird Proofing job and the boss let me have it, I just needed to cut it down to size. It's aluminium frame and each end just slots into each other.
I'd imagine you could make one easy enough even just using a wood frame and it would be a fraction of the cost .
Ya I love the corals but don't really see them growing or doing much maybe I need to increase my light intensity?

If your currently doing that, the lobo loves light so increasing the light a little bit will be good for it, they are moderate to high lighting level requirements.
The favia could be looking for abit more flow or lighting as well, they can adapt to almost anything and once settled will be the longest living coral in your tank

Iv only ever seen tentacles on the lobo once and that was in the 1st few days of getting it.Is the lobo and Favia feeding well? Feed when you can visibly see tentacles on the lobo. If they seam to be constantly on the look for food try feeding abit more but if your feeding twice a week already try changing to coral snow or something like reef roids

The favia has 2 maybe 3 tentacle things that spring out and in almost constantly froom the centre of some of the green spots. Hope I explained that properly are these the feeding tentacles? There not very long!
I try feed them using a syringe and frozen mysis shrimp and phytoplankton but they dont seem to take or get a chance as the skunk shrimp steals all the food.il increase the lighting

They grow quite slowly and can take a long time to grow. I've had about an inch of growth in a year with my brain.

Try using a coke bottle, cut the top off and hold it over them. Same time everyday and they will learn to look for food at that time.

When using the coke bottle, dont be tempted to overfeed, keep with the amount that you usually put in the tank but because it will stay above the coral for 5-10 mins they will eat more than they ever have.
Direct feeding corals is always a good thing, makes them grow alot faster. I only do this every now and again just to make sure they get a good feed every now and again. It brought out my sun corals so they come out every evening now just before i change to actinic lighting.

Is it kinda bubbles with stalks with what looks like white roots. If its that, it will grow and grow in your tank. just carefully keep pulling it off. can become quite big and a nuisance, great for removing phosphates and nitrates tho.
