Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Doesn't look bad now but it grows into a bush and spreads like crazy lol. Disrupts the flow in the tank too once it gets bigger.

Thinking about selling up, struggling to make time for keeping it at the moment and also losing interest.

Ahhhhh lad don't throw in the towel just yet

We all go through moments this..

Myself personally I've had an absolutely hectic few weeks. .been leaving my house every morning at about 6.30 and not getting home 9 or 10...so far I've travelled 2300km this week and had to do double the amount of work in Dublin.loise.kildare.Tipperary.Waterford.wexford.wiclow.Carlow and Kilkenny....believe me I'm so tired last thing I want to do when I get home is start testing for kh and stuff....sometimes stuff gets in the way but if ya can just get through its all the better when ya come out the other side.

We all probably also think to our selves when we start a reef tank ...a few corals and I'll have good water and I'll have a full reef tank in no time and reality is its a lot of work but don't try do what others are doing ....they may have double the amount of time to spend on there tank. ... ..do what suits you

Sorry that little rant probly doesn't make much sense...and I really need a day off....and I'm probly just tryin to say hang in there bud.

We all go through the will I wont I stage.

Trust me having a reef tank is hard work but it is worth it. I currently don't have the time really, that's why I've gone back to just one tank. I work 10pm to 6am then home to mind the kids in the morning. One kid getting tests for autism so loads of Doctor visits, and one that's 6 months old. Add trying to spend time with the misses and seeing family and friends it becomes hectic lol.

I've given up on water tests really, I do them when I cam but you can notice from fish, corals if something is starting to happen.im currently just home from work, doing a top up while my 3 year old is bouncing around the room :) I've gotten 5 hours sleep in 2 days and not getting to bed anytime soon due to an appointment later.

You will miss it when it's gone, I miss my second tank, even tho I have moved most things into the other tank.

I work an average of 70 hrs a week with 3 kids between the age of 1 and 6! I have other hobbies that demand time as well and still manage to run 5 tanks!
Yes it's hard work, but stick at it for another while! You'll kick yourself when you sell it

I run my own bussiness as a merchanic, plus 27 hrs per week doing security , so like hammie about 70 hrs a week , have 4 tanks and a pond and yes getting time is a real problem. The entire tuesday evening is taken up doing weekly maintaince , plus other bits during the week . However would never give up the fishkeeping , two years to retirement then canreally get things going , first project a marine tank . I know its not easy but stick with it . Robert

That's excellent news - we're losing far too many of the Fishkeeping community and it would have been bad news to lose you too.
I've deleted your ad as requested too.
